Viola openly despairs a lot, if you ask Aurel. He’s fond of the magician, in the way he’s fond of people not of his Clan, though he’d rather she manage to forget exactly how dangerous he can be from time to time. Her little quirks are regarded with an amused air, theatrics included.

And that’s a bit rude. The money thing, though, that’s my old man, bless his bones. Richer than Scrooge McDuck, and that’s only if we count what we’ve got stashed, never mind stocks and properties and the like. Told my dad I needed a year out after the fire, he was more than happy to set me up a small fund. Pretty sure he thinks Viola’s my girlfriend, which - no. I mean, she’s great! But no, I just employ her, which I guess is a fancy word for “hang out at her house a lot and buy her food”.
